James Kanning Named Triton of the Week

James Kanning, NDA 2019, is Triton of the Week for the week of February 18, 2019.

A student dedicated to faith, Kanning is an altar server at all-school Masses and can be found at Eucharistic Adoration and other faith opportunities each week.

Most recently, he was a retreat leader at the boys freshman retreat. Kanning leads by example when it comes to faith, and the freshman boys learned from his wisdom and passion for the Catholic faith. Greg Geiser, social studies teacher and chess club adviser, said, "James' confidence and willingness to listen, along with his caring nature, have made him a person that others look to and naturally respect."

Kanning has participated in cross country and baseball all four years of his NDA career, along with competing on the math team and chess club. A team player on the field, course, and in the halls, Kanning is a natural at building positive morale and team spirit.

"James is a very caring person, he is highly intelligent and has a well-developed sense of right and wrong; but is also open-minded and willing to engage with people with whom he disagrees," said Geiser. "In chess, he doesn't take losses personally and is always looking to learn from his mistakes and to improve."

Kanning will attend the University of Mary, North Dakota or the University of St. Thomas Minnesota, and is prayerfully considering entering the seminary.
