Olivia Vanden Elzen, NDA 2019, is Triton of the Week for the week of December 3, 2018.

Vanden Elzen is a model student for her peers as she succeeds academically and continuously looks for ways to give back to her school community. During her senior year, she has been the manager for the football and girls basketball teams.

Mike Rader, Vanden Elzen's nominator, said, "In her role as the football team manager, she showed a willingness to help out wherever it was needed, despite not having any experience. She was able to interact with coaches and players in a positive way and made herself a valuable asset to the team."

Not only does Vanden Elzen give back to the school community, but the general community, as well. Volunteering her time to Saint Joseph School, her elementary school, as the third grade basketball coach, attending the Canton, Mississippi summer mission trip, and acting as the representative to administration on the executive board of student government top her list of experiences.

Rader continued, "She displayed confidence in her own abilities and was dependable throughout the season. Even though she never played a down of football, she shared in our Friday Night Lights experiences from the pre-game prayer service to the final whistle."

Also an office worker for Mrs. Kirschling and Mr. Kriegl, Vanden Elzen gives up her study hall time during the school day to deliver important notes to students. Finally, Vanden Elzen was chosen by Mrs. Carolyn Brown to be one of two students to write an article for the upcoming edition of the Notre Dame Academy Magazine. "Olivia is reliable, dedicated, and always willing to learn. It has been a dream to work with her on her upcoming magazine article, and I cannot wait for our audiences to read it," said Kimberly Uelmen, admissions & marketing/communications coordinator.

Finally, Vanden Elzen plans to attend Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona to major in communications and to minor in sports management.
