Ways to help Notre Dame Academy through Gifts
A New Way to Give – Pension Protection Act of 2008 The IRA rollover is back. This provision was originally part of the Pension Protection Act of 2006 and has now been extended as part of the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 signed on October 3, 2008. What does that mean for you? The guidelines are the same as for IRA gifts made in 2006 and 2007: · Donors must be age 70 ½ or older and own a traditional or Roth IRA. Other retirement plans, such as pensions, 401(k) plans and other are not eligible. · Only the IRA trustee can transfer gift amounts to a qualified organization, like Notre Dame Academy. If an IRA owner withdraws funds and then contributes them to charity separately, amounts withdrawn will be included in the donor's gross income. · No charitable deductions are allowed, but gift amounts will not be included in the donors' incomes. IRA gifts may satisfy charitable pledges, according to the IRS. · The amount transferred does count toward the donor's required minimum distribution. · IRA gifts may not exceed $100,000 and must be made before 2010. Note that up to $100,000 may be distributed for both 2008 and 2009. The "ceilings" on contribution deductions (50% of adjusted gross income for cash, 30% of AGI for capital gain assets), do not apply to IRA gifts IRA gifts cannot be made to charitable remainder trusts or other "life income gift" arrangements. Transfers are not permitted to donor advised funds or "supporting" organizations. Should you have any questions or if you would like more information, please contact the NDA President's office at (920) 429-6110. Please consider Notre Dame Academy with a gift from your IRA in 2008 and 2009. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Annual Appeal The Annual Appeal is Notre Dame's yearly request for donations from all parents, alumni and friends. Notre Dame uses these donations to provide tuition grants, sponsor programs, update technology and maintain campus facilities. The 2008-2009 Annual Fund goal is $100,000. Annual Appeal Donations may be directed to the President's office. Who gives to the Annual Appeal? · Parents: We encourage parents to make an annual gift to NDA through a letter in the fall. Parents are asked to contribute as much of the difference between the tuition and actual educational cost as they can afford · Grandparents: Many grandparents make charitable contributions in support of the general needs of Notre Dame. · Board Members: All members of the Board of Education contribute to the Annual Appeal. · Friends: Past parents and supporters of Catholic education make their gifts annually to the NDA Annual Appeal. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Planned Giving While planning must go into every gift to Notre Dame Academy, planned giving refers to a major gift made to the school through various financial instruments. A planned gift can be as simple as remembering NDA in your will. There are also trusts, gifts of life insurance, retirement plan assets, or property. Each method has specific advantages that are tailored to the donor's needs. A donor might structure a gift that would provide life income, avoid capital gains tax, and pass assets to family members substantially free of taxes.

Stock Transfers
Giving appreciated stock or bonds to Notre Dame Academy is usually more advantageous than giving cash. If you give appreciated securities held longer than one year, you can deduct their full fair market value, regardless of what you originally paid for them. Your total deduction is limited to 30% of your adjusted gross income in any year, but you can take any unused deduction over five succeeding tax years. And, you pay no capital gains tax on the donated securities! With these tax savings, the actual cost of your gift is less than if you made a cash gift

Scholarship Fund Designate your gift to the general scholarship fund, contribute to an already named scholarship, or create your own named scholarship. Notre Dame awards nearly $580,000 in scholarship assistance each year to gifted students and students in need.
The diversity of Notre Dame Academy continues to grow as new tuition grants are established and awarded. It is Notre Dame's mission to maintain school community composed of students from a wide range of cultural, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. One-third of Notre Dame's students qualify for tuition grants. The Tuition Grant Program at Notre Dame Academy relies upon endowed funds, annual scholarship gifts, the Catholic High School Foundation, and contributions from the Norbertines. Tuition at Notre Dame for the 2008-2009 academic year is $4,600. Over $510,000 in tuition grants have been awarded to 232 students. How can I support the Tuition Grant Program?

Composing a will can be a life affirming process – a time to reflect on who is important to you and how you can continue to support them through your estate. During this process, you also have the opportunity to recognize members of your "extended family" – organizations that have made a difference in your or your loved ones' lives. Because of the positive difference Notre Dame Academy has made in the lives of our parents and alumni, NDA has become part of their extended family. Help to build a legacy of Catholic secondary education in your name. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stadium Renovation Project - Fan Fund A new concessions building with indoor bathrooms (no more porta-potty) is part of the new Stadium Fundraising Project. The project also includes replacement of the stadium playing field. How can I support the project? Consider purchasing a stadium seat with your name on it! Center seats are $350 each, and side-section seats are $250 each. Gifts at other levels are also welcome. The fund goal for the total project is $1.5 million. To date, we've raised $1.26 million. We are seeking the remaining $240,000 so that we can guarantee that both components of the project can be completed for the 2009 athletic season. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Contact: Char Dunlap, President's Office cdunlap@notredameacademy.com (920) 429-6110 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Triton Wall of Honor Memorialize your support for NDA by having your name included on the Triton Wall of Honor. Tiles can be purchased for $1,000 each. Tiles are placed in a highly visible area – across from the main door of our new Triton Center, and there is room for more! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- NDA Hockey The Notre Dame Academy boys' hockey program expanded in 2008 to include a new junior varsity team. The addition of new equipment and uniforms is part of current fundraising priorities to meet the program's needs. A Hockey Endowment has also been established to assist with the costs of ice rental and travel. The Cornerstone Ice Center's new addition also includes a designated locker room for the Tritons. Gifts to the hockey program and endowment can be made through the President's Office at Notre Dame Academy.
Notre Dame Academy is a believing, learning community where all are welcome. Tuition costs are a serious burden for many among the new diversity populations in our region. Notre Dame Academy is committed to growing the diversity of its student body from its current 8% to 10-15% in the next few years. Notre Dame Academy seeks additional funds to support programming and scholarships for new diversity students. An endowed scholarship program has been established. At present, the endowment total is $600,000, with a monetary goal of $1.2 million. The first 5 scholarships were awarded from the Diversity Scholars Program this 2008-09 school year. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- NDA Phonathon In order to balance our fundraising efforts, Phonathon is now a fall campaign. For 8 nights (Sept. 22, 23, 29, 30 & Oct. 6, 7, 20, 21), current NDA students call alumni of the schools that now make up Notre Dame Academy. This fundraiser helps balance the cost of tuition ($4,600) with the actual cost per student ($7249.58) to help keep tuition down. When you are called, if you would prefer to have your pledge amount recorded for 2009, just tell our student callers and we will accommodate your request. Please donate if you are called! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Contact: Barbara Patz, Fundraising Coordinator bpatz@notredameacademy.com (920) 429-6114 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
