Celebration of Advent
During the last two weeks the Church has closed out the last liturgical year celebrating the feast of Christ the King, and ushered in the season of Advent pointing to the Incarnation of Jesus at Christmas.
The colors of our daily life change as we are plunged deeper into dark nights that await new light returning as autumn ends and winter begins.
As students prepare for semester exams, and holiday shopping fills our days and empties pocketbooks we take stock to focus upon the deeper meaning of the Incarnation: how God becomes like us so we may become more like God. The Gospels this week proclaim how Jesus calls, Jesus feeds, Jesus teaches, and Jesus heals in his ministry with the disciples.
In our preparations, then, may we hear, be nourished, learn, and be healed from the afflictions of our time, and the struggles we all endure.
Together we pray: Come, Lord Jesus, Emmanuel.
