Meglic relishes chance to attend Cornell

Notre Dame Academy senior Joel Meglic was recognized Wednesday for his opportunity to attend and play football at Cornell University.

"I'm beyond grateful to play football at the next level, especially at an amazing school like Cornell and get an Ivy League education while I'm at it," Meglic said.

The 6-foot-3, 270-pound lineman earned first-team all-Fox River Classic Conference honors last fall for the Tritons.

"I'd like to thank coach (Mike) Rader, his whole staff and my teammates in the Notre Dame football program," Meglic said. "Notre Dame football is where I fell in love with the game and without the support of my coaches and my teammates, I wouldn't be standing up here today."

Meglic is following in the footsteps of his older sister, Corinne, in attending an Ivy League college. Corinne (NDA '17) currently attends and plays volleyball at Samford University.

Meglic plans to study business at Cornell, which is located in Ithaca, N.Y. He said much of his work ethic and success is a credit to his parents, Mark and Sherri.

"They've always been really hard on me and my sister, knowing when to push us and when to back off," Meglic said. "They really expect a lot out of both of us and I definitely wouldn't be the man I am today without them."
