Max McCormick, Notre Dame Academy 2010, is the son of Scott and Kris McCormick.

McCormick was an absolute star on the ice while skating for the NDA hockey team. He became the program's all-time leading scorer with 171 total points in three years. He was selected in 2010 as the Wisconsin Hockey Coaches Association's high school player of the year. The standout forward also earned first team all-state and first team all-Badgerland Conference honors in addition to being named the Badgerland Conference player of the year.

NDA coach Cory McCracken said, “We were in the building phase of our program in 2006 through 2009, and Max was a cornerstone of our program's success. Max helped guide our team to the 2010 WIAA state tournament. Max was a dynamic high school player and the most competitive player we have had in our program on and off the ice. A fantastic person. Without Max McCormick, Notre Dame Academy hockey is not what it is today. Max set the foundation of excellence within our hockey program. Max is a primary reason why high school hockey (WIAA) is thriving today in Green Bay. Max’s impact locally on high school athletics can not be measured, from a hockey perspective.”

After graduating from NDA in 2010, McCormick was drafted in the first round, seventh overall, by Sioux City Musketeers of the United States Hockey League. Following a season Sioux City, McCormick was drafted 171st overall by the Ottawa Senators of the NHL in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. McCormick became the first of four current NHL draft picks out of NDA and the first Green Bay-based NHL draft pick.

McCormick played for three seasons at Ohio State University, finishing with 88 points (36 goals, 52 assists) in 104 games, and made the Central Collegiate Hockey Association all-rookie team for the 2011-12 season.

McCormick turned pro in 2014 with the Binghamton Senators of the American Hockey League. McCormick made his NHL debut on October 25, 2015 with Ottawa.

In 2019, McCormick was traded to the Colorado Avalanche and was immediately assigned to the team's American League affiliate, the Colorado Eagles. McCormick played out the remainder of the 2018-19 season with the Eagles, adding eight points in 25 regular season games and helping the Eagles to the 2019 Calder Cup playoffs.

As a free agent from his brief tenure with the Avalanche, McCormick was signed to a one-year, two-way contract with the Carolina Hurricanes on July 25, 2019. In the following 2019-20 season, McCormick returned from injury and was belatedly assigned by the Hurricanes to AHL affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers. Among the Checkers scoring lines, McCormick collected 16 goals and 35 points in 56 games before the remainder of the season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

McCormick started his own hockey camp in 2016, McCormick Hockey School, giving back to local youth players for the past several years to help grow the game in the Green Bay area.
