Celia Brummel is Triton of the Week

Celia Brummel enjoys being creative and crafty.

The Notre Dame Academy sophomore is using her skills to make cloth masks to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

“She is an incredible person with a kind heart and hard work ethic,” Theology and Social Studies Teacher Katie Stanczak said of Brummel, the Triton of the Week for the week of April 13, 2020.

“Celia did not shy away from helping her mother, Paula, make masks for those in need during this pandemic. She also is willing to step up and help her classmates and create a positive classroom environment, which many of us miss right now. I am grateful for Celia, her family, and all that the Triton Community is doing to rise for high standards in learning and caring for one another during these unprecedented times.”

Brummel was looking for a new way to lend a helping hand since her normal routine of volunteering at Wyndemere Assisted Living has been disrupted due to social distance measures.

“I’ve always liked working with the elderly and socializing with them,” she said. I would always visit my grandparents at their nursing home, and I always enjoyed seeing the elderly and liked seeing the helpers socialize with them. I definitely wanted to do my social service hours involving a nursing home, which I’m glad I got the opportunity to do that.”

Brummel competes on the cross country and basketball teams at NDA. She looks forward to getting involved with more activities and finding new ways to make a difference during her final two years of high school.

“I really love how we have so many activities that bring us together and we can show our talents,” Brummel said. “There are opportunities for every single person to show their skills. All the people are really close and, obviously, the church and having God in our lives definitely can help bring us closer. I love my school.”
