Goretty Juarez is Triton of the Week

Goretty Juarez is always willing to lend a helping hand.

The Notre Dame Academy senior’s kindness doesn’t go unnoticed.

“She is responsible, dependable and always willing to help with whatever needs to be done,” NDA Counselor Jill Zamzow-Gerl said.

For her efforts, Juarez is the Triton of the Week for the week of April 27, 2020.

The National Honor Society student volunteers at her parish, Paul’s Pantry, Women’s Career Closet and tutoring classmates in school.

“I enjoy helping other people,” Juarez said. “I like to see them succeed.

“I’ve done work at the Women’s Closet, where it’s for women who need clothing for a job interview or just nice clothing for a job. I would go in and help translate or help with the clothing.”

Juarez to make a career out of helping others. She’ll attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison and aspires to become a speech pathologist.

She gained an interest in speech pathology as a career possibility from Mrs. Zamzow-Gerl.

Juarez assisted Mrs. Zamzow-Gerl and the rest of the Student Services department as a pass runner for two years. She also was a member of Spanish Club, Art Club and ran for the cross-country team.

“I enjoy the family feeling of it,” Juarez said about cross country. “It is not just a running sport. It has a family feeling. You have your friends and people that encourage you to run harder on race day.”

Juarez is going to miss many things about NDA, including the annual powderpuff football games in the fall.

However, the thing she’ll miss most are the relationships she’s formed.

“The teachers seem to know every single student,” Juarez said. “It feels good because you feel that people are concerned about you. Let’s say you have a bad day. You can go right up and talk to any teacher, and they can help you. I’m going to miss the community and family feeling of Notre Dame.”
