Austin Whipple would like to become a video game designer one day.
Based on how the Notre Dame Academy junior has taken his academics to another level this year, he’s definitely on the right path to attaining his goal.
“The academic success he is finding now is what it is all about,” Learning Resource Specialist Cassidy McGowan said. “Notre Dame has been a great fit for this young man. The world is his oyster at this point.
“I think he can accomplish any goal that he sets out to do because he just has that confidence. Seeing how happy he is, how positive he is and respectful I think are the greatest things.”
For his efforts, Whipple is the Triton of the Week for the week of Feb. 3, 2020.
“Star Wars: Battlefront” and “The Forest” are a couple of Whipple’s favorite video games to play.
However, he took his first steps to going behind the scenes of gameplay by taking a programming course last summer at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.
“It was fun getting to create your own game and getting to play it and share it with others,” Whipple said.
Whipple volunteers for Feed My Starving Children and helps his parents with a booyah sale.
He’s enjoying learning about commerce in his Economics class with Mr. Dan Morris.
“It’s helping me learn about taxes and how the stock market works,” Whipple said. “I want to know what I’m doing when I’m going to have to do stuff.”
McGowan looks forward to seeing what Whipple is going to do in the future.
“He has the greater picture in mind,” McGowan said.
“He continues to be a great attribute to the community of Notre Dame. He’s got a great friend network. He’s a great role model. He works hard in the classroom. He’s really exceeded the potential I thought he had by staying on top of all of his work and working hard outside of school.”
