Reflections on the School Year

Reflections on the School Year

Dear Families of Notre Dame Academy,

As we conclude this 2020-21 academic year I would like to take a moment to reflect upon our shared journey since last August.

The Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament that stands on the NDA campus is a poignant reminder of the great act of thanksgiving that lies at the center of our faith.  In thanksgiving we gather as a community in Christ, and in thanksgiving we go forth into the summer months to vacate, rejuvenate and recreate.

Thank you for your partnership this year as classrooms, courts, fields and stages had to be refashioned to accommodate the pandemic challenges. We have pursued a path trying to keep everyone safe if at times frustrated. We apologize for the frustrations, and we are hopeful for the future!

On behalf of our faculty, staff and coaches who have risen to challenge after challenge throughout this year I am reminded of the words of the Second Vatican Council reflection on Catholic schools:

“The work of teachers is…most suited to and necessary for our times and at once a true service offered to society.”

Such words have never been so true, and so I offer thanks for the efforts of so many.

Finally, I thank our students for their resilience, their continual creativity, and their honest questions and vigorous activity in so many directions. The spirit of the students is the lifeblood of our community efforts.

As the summer develops its own rhythms from home to home, may you have continued health, and our best wishes as you enjoy the summer.

Blessings in Christ,

Tom Kiely
NDA President
