Casey Brozek graduated from Abbot Pennings High School in 1989. Brozek started playing golf at age 6, but didn’t really have any formal instruction. He came to Abbot Pennings as a cross-handed golfer.  While it may seem that the answer is easy, just fix his grip, know that Brozek had a ton of success as a junior golfer. He won a long list of tournaments, shot in the 60s several times and had two holes-in-ones before freshman year. He made an immediate impact on the varsity team his freshman year, but faltered at the state tournament. Within weeks Brozek was introduced to the local PGA Pro, Jim Thompson, at Oneida Golf & Riding Club. After nine years of success and his comfortable cross-handed grip, Brozek reluctantly changed his grip before the next golf season. Brozek returned to his winning ways when he captured the individual state championship at North Hills in Menominee Falls his sophomore year. To put icing on the cake, the team took home the first of their three consecutive state titles.

Brozek added to his titles with victories in both conference and regionals during his junior and senior years. The highlight for Brozek and the team was having an undefeated season.

Brozek was offered a scholarship to play for the University of Kansas. During his college years, he enjoyed moderate success with multiple top 10 finishes. His college highlight came during the summer of 1991 when he captured the coveted Wisconsin State Amateur Championship. He finished his college career making the Big 8 all-conference team and being honored as an Academic All-American with a degree in communications.

Following college, Brozek turned professional and toured the world, including the tours in South Africa and the United States. After a couple years, he quickly realized how hard it was to join the game’s elite players. Brozek quickly became a certified PGA Professional beginning his career at helping others with their golf games. As an assistant golf professional, he worked in southern Wisconsin and southern Florida through his years as an apprentice. He continued to keep his skills sharp and won the 1999 Wisconsin PGA Assistants Championship.

Soon after, he was hired as the sixth golf professional in 80 years at Crystal Lake Country Club in Crystal Lake, Ill., in 2000. It was there that Brozek became very involved in his association. Brozek volunteered on PGA committees for 10 years, while also becoming an officer of the Illinois PGA Section. In 2012, when Brozek was president, he and the PGA staff and members were instrumental in assisting with the Ryder Cup at Medinah. In 2016, his peers recognized Brozek as the Illinois PGA Professional of the Year, the highest honor bestowed on a PGA Member. Brozek has continued his career in the South Florida PGA Section, where he now serves as the director of golf at Quail West Golf & Country Club, a private 36-hole residential community in Naples, Fla. Brozek was recently named the 2021 South Florida PGA Professional of the Year for the Southwest Chapter.
