Gary Simoens, SNHS 1957, earned 12 Varsity letters from SNHS and 10 Varsity letters from SNC as a standout student-athlete on the football, basketball, and baseball teams. Gary had a tryout with the Baltimore Orioles in Appleton with Manager Earl Weaver, but turned down the contract in order to finish his senior year of college and to become a teacher. He scored the final four points in the 1957 WISAA basketball state high school championship game, leading the Squires to win state championships in 1956 and 1957. Gary earned All-State honors in 1956-57 in both football and basketball at SNHS. He has been active in the education field for over 50 years as a teacher, coach, and substitute teacher at St. Mary’s in Menasha, Lena High School, and Bay Port High School. Gary has four children: Mike, Amy, Chris, and Tricia.
