Service Hours

During and only for the 2020-21 school year, students will be encouraged, but not required to complete their Sophomore Service Hours. With the full support and regular encouragement of the Theology teachers, students are still encouraged to complete service hours. However, due to the challenges of a shortage of service locations open to the public, requiring the hours will only create undue stress on our students. No academic/grade penalty will result if a student is unable to complete their hours.

Campus Ministry will still award the NDA Service Award to students who complete 30 hours of service. In order to earn the Service Award at the Sophomore year, at least one service project completed would need to be of a Social Justice theme. All Service Hour approval would go through Campus Ministry and Mr. Daniel Kriegl. Students would still be expected to track all service hours in the x2Vol system.

Please note that in the event conditions change, the requirement may be revisited.

What Changed: No mandatory service/15 hours/grading/failing for non-completion for this year.

What Did Not Change: Notre Dame Academy continues to value and support the integral and transformational nature of service to our Catholic community and student development. However, due to the pandemic and COVID-19 protocols, we do not want to academically mandate any unnecessary risks.
