Coach Gio was named the NHSSCA Wisconsin Coach of the Year.

Notre Dame Academy Physical Education Teacher and Athletics Strength and Conditioning Coach AJ Giovanetti was named the NHSSCA Wisconsin Coach of the Year by his peers.

The National High School Strength Coaches Association (NHSSCA) mission is to Educate, Equip and Empower coaches to make a positive impact in the lives of student-athletes and to comprehensively develop character, the mind and the body through committing to proper technique of those athletes. Coach Giovanetti was nominated by coaches across the state and voted as the top coach in the Wisconsin.

Coach Gio as we call him is very committed to his work here at Notre Dame Academy. By day he is a Phys ED and Health teacher and after school he is in the weight room training our athletes. He spends time before school, after school, weekends and summers committing his time to make sure the student-athletes are well conditioned for their athletic activities.

The art of in-season and off-season conditioning is the key to any successful athletic program. Majority of our student-athletes are in the weight room at some point during the school year. Coach Gio has elevated our programs by the work he has done with our athletes. There is a direct correlation between his work and our success.

Coach Gio, a 2004 graduate of Notre Dame says of this award; "For me it's an honor to be recognized and nominated by my peers. All of them are great coaches and have set a standard for what it means to be a successful S&C coach, and a couple of them have won the same award themselves. Being a successful coach means a lot of different things to a lot of different people but mostly it's about the relationships you develop with your student athletes and that's what I'm most proud of. Since I was notified about winning the award I've been very reflective about a lot of things but mostly about how blessed I am to be able to coach the athletes that I've been able to coach, both past and present. And this award really belongs to all of those athletes. We have a lot of great memories together and I look forward to making many more."

Coach Sara Rohde, the Head Girls Basketball coach says of Coach Gio, "AJ is very dedicated and committed to NDA and helping our athletes get stronger, quicker and faster. We are very fortunate to have him as a full time strength coach and appreciate all he does for Girls Basketball."

Athletic Director Matthew Koenig states, "Without a solid strength and conditioning program, NDA Athletics would not be having the success we are having. I really credit Coach Giovanetti for his time and commitment to this area of our programs. He goes above beyond from what other S&C I have worked with. A lot of what he does goes unseen by the human eye. Preparing different workouts for different teams is not an easy task. He is very active sitting on local and state committees continuing to learn and develop. We are so blessed to have his knowledge and expertise here at NDA, because it is such a critical part to high school athletics.

Notre Dame Academy congratulates Coach Gio on this well-deserved award and thanks him for continuing to make our programs better.
